2023 'Yarra Valley' Chardonnay

$40.00

Vineyard

Our Chardonnay block was established in 2007 by grafting two acres of the gentle North facing Shiraz block (planted 1998) with the Chardonnay clone I10V1. The soil is grey clay encasing small pebbles of mud stone. We spur prune the Chardonnay which provides more leaf cover for the fruit, shading from the sun and prevents sunburn damage.

Winemaking

The grapes were harvested on the 9th of March then destemmed and pressed for cold settling overnight before being racked to french oak barrels (15% new) and inoculated for fermentation. The wine did not go through malolactic fermentation as we wanted to retain the acid freshness. After six months in oak the wine was blended into tank. It spent a further 2 months ageing on lees before being prepared for bottling on the 20th of December 2023.

Sensory Analysis

A fresh aromatic lighter style of Chardonnay. Bright straw in colour with white peach, pear and a delicate floral aroma on the nose. The palate has a crisp backbone of acidity and minerality, with a light touch of oak and lovely texture. This wine has the classic Yarra Chardonnay acid brightness and can be enjoyed over the next 6 years.
